About This Experience

Visit the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, a leading feature of 18th-century neoclassical architecture. Start your guided tour with an exterior presentation of the building before entering the vestibule. Then visit the grand staircase and the auditorium. Designed by architect Victor Louis and inaugurated in 1780, it was built on the site of the ancient Roman temple known as the Pillars of Tutelle. See the architecture and decorated interiors as you explore the venue. Learn about its history and restoration work. Since 1990, it has undergone extensive restoration to preserve its original 18th-century character while meeting the requirements of a modern theater.

An ornate theater with a grand chandelier, painted ceiling, red curtain, stage, and rows of empty seats.
