Travel from Melbourne in the morning for a half-day tour to the Dandenong Ranges, combining heritage and natural areas. Join a tour with a guide to reach Belgrave, the gateway to the Puffing Billy Railway ride. Ride the Puffing Billy steam train, passing through forested areas with mountain ash trees and fern gullies in its open-sided carriages. Optionally, sit on the carriage ledge (if allowed) and pass over the Monbulk Creek Trestle Bridge. Reach the Lakeside Visitor Centre, where free time is available for activities at Emerald Lake Park such as walking along trails, viewing the lake surroundings, or relaxing nearby. Return to Melbourne after midday, ending at a central drop-off location.
